A beautiful, white, snowy egret from the tropics, visitor to the  Arizona desert, meets a native Gambel’s quail, who raises a wing to touch its topknot. “It is a pleasure to meet you in this enormous American Sahara,” the snowy egret says, bowing its head ever so slightly before looking around, “but my dear, I must ask, how do you bathe?”
